JAYNE-LOUSE SLATER
I have been modelling since I was 15yrs old and I have had so many experiences that I would recommend it to everyone.
Of course there are the pitfalls, but you have to take those in your stride and keep going. My first step on the ladder was entering and then going on to win a local competition for the Carnival Queen, as the Rugby Carnival Queen I was asked to appear on Paramount Comedy Channel. Wow how fantastic was that my first experience in front of a TV camera it was in the London studios where I met Eric Morley of the Miss World office and he said I should enter Miss England not realizing my age and that I was too young.
When he discovered I was too young to enter he gave me a personal invite to the finals in London at the Grosvenor Hotel. I couldn't believe all the stars that were in the audience from stage screen and sports and I was star struck, the most memorable part of this was my discussion with Frank Bruno he was really lovely and we had everyone in fits of laughter. The following year I entered a local competition in Leicester where I won the Charity Queen Title which led to the semi-finals in Nottingham I came in the top 5 with Emmaline Mcloughlin winning.
I was signed up to an agency and went on to do work in magazines. My first magazine photo shoot was for the Clothes Show and one of my pictures ended up on the cover and I also got copies of the photos. I was in the top 5 for Miss Take A Break and had my photo in the magazine, has a finalist I was treated to lunch at Number 10 Downing Street I had such a fabulous time during the two day judging and feel privileged to have taken part. My photo has also appeared in 69 clubbing magazine FHM, Zoo and New.
I have entered many Beauty Competitions and won more than 24 titles, I represented England in Miss Bikini of the World and went to the Cannes Film Festival where I was mobbed because everyone thought I was Catherine-Zeta Jones. It was very frightening being mobbed but the security was absolutely fantastic taking me away and ensuring that I was Ok, now when I look back it seems so surreal and I laugh to think it happened but I can assure you I wasn't laughing at the time. You must really consider if you really want that sort of fame.
Since my first appearance on TV I have appeared on BBC, Channel 4, Sky Sports Presenting and also as a Soccerette on Soccer AM and also GMTV. Lorraine Kelly was fantastic and really knows how to put you at ease she is such a fab person I came runner up in Miss GMTV that year.
During my time at University I got alopecia I was devastated and my story was covered in magazines on how I overcame it and went on to win Miss Rugby and enter the finals of Miss England. I have represented Ireland twice in major competitions, Miss Ireland Europe and my most recent Miss Ireland Intercontinental. How come Ireland I hear you ask, well it's like footballers if you can prove the ancestry less than 3 generations you can represent that country. My paternal grandmother is from Ireland, she was so proud when I went to Poland in the Miss Europe competition and China in the Miss Intercontinental. My grandmother has since passed away but I will have the fondest memories of her and her support.
The rules now stop me from entering the competitions has I am too old, but I enjoy helping and choreographing Miss & Mr Rugby and I still do the occasional modelling assignments. I teach secondary school pupils PE and IT and they are very supportive of me and think it's great that they have a famous teacher
